Our Second to Last Stop in Turkey - Cesme
We have two more stops in Turkey before we head to Greece. One was at Çeşme, a Turkish resort town west of Izmir, on the Aegean Sea. According to the Internet, overlooking the harbor is Çeşme Castle, a restored military fortress. It now houses the Çeşme Archaeology Museum, with displays of marble busts, metal coins and artifacts from nearby excavations. On the east side of the Çeşme peninsula is sandy Ilica Beach, with warm thermal sulfur springs. Around Çeşme are clear waters and accessible dive sites.
None of the shore excursions offered particularly interested me - a stroll through Cesme, a vineyard experience, a tour to Izmir (too long a day) and an excursion to Ephesus (which is where we would be the next day). Instead, I remember my Turkish guide telling me that the small nearby town of Alacati was worth a visit and I had watched a YouTube video of it and thought it might be worth seeing. So, the English couple I had met and I took a taxi there (200 TL or about $3) and we spent an easy morning wandering around. It proved to be quite pretty with some parts reminding us of Greece (not surprising as it is located on the Aegean Sea). So, having no more to say, here are some photos of our visit to this charming place. Thankfully, Google Translate helped us get a taxi back to the ship. Oh, the wonders of technology!!
